SY Stanza is a promising two-row hulled malting barley line that is widely adapted to western Canada. It is a non-GN (glycosidic nitrile) line with potential for both the brewing and distilling industry. It was 10% higher yielding than CDC Copeland and 1% higher than AAC Synergy over 2 years of testing across all soil zones, performing best in the brown soil zone. It was significantly shorter than check varieties with much better lodging scores. Kernel weight was higher than the checks and test weight was lower than the checks. Maturity was 1.6 days longer than CDC Copeland. SY Stanza has an average disease resistance package compared to the checks, including better tolerance than the checks to Scald and Surface Smut, similar tolerance to spot blotch and to loose smut, and weaker on stem rust, spotted net blotch and FHB tolerance.
